Milwaukee Appeal won the Woodbine Oaks with jockey Stewart Elliott in the irons guiding the filly for the first time. She is headed for the $1 Million Queen's Plate.

A Canadian-foaled filly, Milwaukee Appeal, has been supplemented to the $1 Million Queen's Plate Stakes, the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. Following in the footsteps of the connections of America's sweetheart, Rachel Alexandra, Milwaukee Appeal breeder/owner Eugene George and trainer Scott Fairlie opted to supplement the filly to the male Triple Crown competition. The price was $25,000.

Fairlie chose Post Number 4 for Sunday's (June 21) running of the 150th Queen's Plate.

Jockey Stewart Ellliott, after piloting Milwaukee Appeal to victory in the first leg of the filly Canadian Triple Tiara, the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks, will be aboard again for the Queen's Plate. Elliott's win in the Oaks was his first ride on the talented filly.

Elliott Rode Smarty Jones

Elliott is well remembered for his rides with Smarty Jones in three thrilling American Triple Cown races in 2004. The duo barely missed capturing the twelfth all-time American Triple Crown championship.

In the June 7 Woodbine, Elliott led out an eager Milwaukee Appeal in the post parade, then powered the lady past Tasty Temptation's challenge in the final furlongs in the 1-1/8 miles race on Polytrack. Milwaukee Appeal drew away by 3-3/4 lengths in time of 1:49.84.

American (California) filly Wynning Ride, trained by Bob Baffert, was the Woodbine favorite. She finished fourth a nose behind Miss Blakely in the field of thirteen.

Milwaukee Brew's Second Consecutive Woodbine Oaks

Stallion Milwaukee Brew earned his second consecutive Oaks victory. Daughter Ginger Brew won the Woodbine Oakes in 2008.

Fillies go on to compete in the Bison City Stakes and the Wonder Where Stakes in the final two legs of the Canadian filly Triple Tiara.

Woodbine Undercard Winners

The $150,000 Victoria Park Stakes, run by three-year-old males at 1-1/8 miles on Polytrack, was won by favorite Awesome Rhythm in 1:51.12 by 8-1/2 lengths over rivals Counter Move, Life Goes On, and Mensch.

Woodsmoke captured a nose victory in the $100,000 Alywow Stakes for three-year-old fillies racing on turf. She beat favorite Pull Dancer in 1:15.44, while Retraceable went third
