Panty Raid and Vacare peeled off automatic berths to this month's Breeders' Cup championships by overcoming favorites Lady Joanne and Lady of Venice, respectively, in the Keeneland Race Course "Win and You're In" contests Oct. 6th and 7th. Tough Tiz's Sis got a win on the Santa Anita Park card, but she is not Breeders' Cup eligible so the victory did not guarantee her a spot in the coming championships.
Baffert Filly Could Be Supplemented
However, Tough Tiz's Sis could get supplemented to the Breeders' field if her owners, Jon and Sarah Kelly, pay her way in. The price tag is $180,000. Currently, her earnings stand at $389,872. A Tiznow filly, Tough Tiz's Sis is out of Leaseholder, by Taylor's Falls.
Tough Tiz's Sis put up her fifth win in 11 starts Oct. 7th by coasting into the lead in the final strides over Hystericalady, the favorite in the 1-1/16 miles $196,500 Lady's Secret Handicap at Santa Anita Park's Oak Tree meeting Ridden by David Flores, Tough Tiz's Sis is trained by veteran Bob Baffert. On Santa Anita's Cushion Track, the filly ran through in 1:41.64. Bai and Bai went third.
Panty Raid accomplished a similar closing act in the last furlong of the $540,000 Juddmonte SpinsterStakes.She pulled off just a half-length victory in 1:51.30 over Lady Joanne, recent winner in the Alabama Stakes. Lady Joanne led most of the 1-1/8 miles Oct. 7th. Teammate finished third.
What BC Race for Panty Raid?
Eligible for both the Breeders' Cup Distaff and the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Monmouth Park, New Jersey Oct. 27th, Panty Raid will remain uncommitted for the moment, said trainer Todd Pletcher. Jockey Garrett Gomez rode the winner, who improved to five wins in eight starts. Panty Raid's earnings are at $1,020,275.
Pletcher was pleased with Panty Raid's effort, but declined to say which Breeders' Cup surface he wanted to point the versatile filly to, turf, or the dirt of the Distaff coming off this Polytrack win. Panty Raid's sire is Include. She is out of Adventurous Di, by Private Account.
Clement's Vacare Edges Out Precious Kitten
Vacare, trained by Christophe Clement and piloted by Corey Nakatani, brought her earnings to $843,856 from six wins in eight starts. The four-year-old filly is nominated to the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
She scooted past Precious Kitten at the finish line in the$432,000 First Lady Stakes Oct. 6th. Beaten favorite Lady of Venice romped to second place, 3-1/4 lengths in front ofQuite a Bride.
Vacare's time over the Keeneland Polytrack for the one mile turf race was 1:35.85. She is out of the Valid Appeal mare Appealing Storm. Her sire is Lear Fan.
