Octave, Nashoba's Key Lead Girls With Rags to Riches On Sideline
Breeders' Cup female championships feature Octave and Nashoba's Key, with Rags to Riches out with a hairline fracture. The BC has a new format as a two-day gig.
A new format, a two-day event, has been put in place for this season's Breeders' Cup World Championships. Although the formula makes room for more participants, the championships will be minus 2007's most celebrated filly, Rags to Riches. She is sidelined with a hairline fracture.
Regardless of Rags to Riches' prospects for racing again, her thrilling stretch duel and victory in the Belmont Stakes over Curlin, the golden boy colt, will never get old in the hearts of racing fans. Without her in the Cup events, the door is open for some other lady to capture Female Horse of the Year honors.
In the male lineups, Curlin and Lawyer Ron could have another scorcher, while Street Sense and Any Given Saturday might have something to say about that possibility as they also renew an old battle. Discreet Cat will try to add to his high profile wins when he takes on Corinthian and Political Force in the Dirt Mile.
Although there may still be some last minute changes, the tentative female lineups for the season ending championships scheduled for Oct. 26th and Oct. 27th look like this:
