Dream Express Juvenile Entry A TossupFour Entries May Be Juvenile Contenders Instead of TurfersFinal entrants for the Breeders' Cup World Championships will sort out in the next 24 hours. Today, as many as four juvenile fillies are a tossup for either dirt or turf.
Dream Express may be the logical favorite in either the Juvenile Fillies race, or the Juvenile Fillies Turf event in the 25th Breeders' Cup World Championships scheduled for October 24. (The boys will ensue competitions on October 25.) With Rainbow View not entered in the Juvenile FilliesTurf, and Mani Bhavan missing from the Juvenile Fillies, Dream Express, loaded with pedigree and ability, could romp in the race of her choice. Her connections, partnered in the large group called Livin the Dream Racing, which is anchored by Kelly Colliver, were pleased with the blossoming dream at the Alcibiades Stakes October 3, but they might want a crack at real stardom in the Juvenile Fillies against Stardom Bound, the emerging star of the juvenile filly ranks. Their decision may hang on the choice of surfaces. Non-turf Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita Park will be contested on the dirt track's new Pro-Ride synthetics topping, not a surface all trainers favor. Dream Express Won Easily in AlcibiadesBreezing past her race mates in the $500,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on the third day of October at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, Dream Express had no problem handling the Polytract surface, or her rivals. The two-year-old emerged as a juvenile express headed for many winners' circles. The bay filly galloped to a 4-1/2 lengths victory over Be Smart, a Smarty Jones filly entered in the Juvenile Fillies, and Devotee, a daughter of Elusive Quality, Smarty Jones' sire. Dream Express is trained by Ken McPeek. Juvenile Fillies Turf Could Be Large FieldEligibles besides Dream Express for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf include (with trainers and jockeys:
Other possible entrants to the Juvenile Fillies Turf are these candidates, which would be chosen by a designated BC selection committee in the order given, if needed:
Maram defeated Freedom Rings October 1 at Belmont Park on turf in the $100,000 Miss Grillo Stakes (G3T). The two-year-old went 8-1/2 furlongs in 1:46.12, sticking her neck out to clip Freedom Rings, who caught third placed My Magic Moment by a head.
