2007 Breeders' Cup Races Results
Curlin, Ginger Punch Triumph; War Pass Delivers in Juvenile Test
While Curlin and Ginger Punch set the standard in the Classic and the Distaff, War Pass passed his Juvenile challenge flawlessly. Corinthian walloped the field by 6-1/2.
With the Breeders' Cup races determined on sloppy track conditions, Curlin, Ginger Punch, and young War Pass proved they didn't mind the weather in winning the Classic, the Distaff, and the Juvenile, respectively. Corinthian stayed strong, winning his contest, the Dirt (Mud!) Mile, by 6-1/2 lengths, while Todd Pletcher-trained English Channel triumphed by 7 lengths in the Turf.
Ginger Punch prevailed at the wire over two other highly touted entrants, Hystericalady and Octave, who went neck and neck with her. She'll be up for older horse awards. She's four.
Curlin, the powerful, gave an outstanding performance, sure-hooved as a mountain goat in the rain, pounding confidently through slop and glistening like a precious gem with the slick of mud that covered him. He almost certainly secured Horse of the Year honors for three-year-olds.
The youngster War Pass is unbeaten in his juvenile year and looking like a world beater. If there had been dust, he would have left every other competitor in it. He displayed, again, an amazing finish and tenacity for the wire. His three-year-old campaign should be electric.
